Kimmie, a friend of Dov’s, was going to shul, and we spoke about it, so I knew I had my way home. B. also sent a message, so I had an either/or.
I got my smoothie, got a drop, and was the second person to arrive, after Pinchus.
I went into the centre, then out, and Shauna was under the tree and I sat and we spoke about the antecedents of C.G.
Interestingly, she doesn’t blame C.G. alone for destroying the congregation, what she sees, as person who has attended for 15 years, is that there was a deterioration, a lack of community, and C.G. virtually pushed the buttons which focused the collapse.
I agree. If there had been a community, then C.G. would not have been able to push those buttons.
A veteran came, thinking the War Memorial was this week, not next. Too interested in what I had to say, I’d let him languish, then alert to myself, gave him a tour of the Centre.
C.G. wasn’t there. Some were hoping he’d never show up.
Actress came alone and sat in her car. Alone. She was spoken to by B. who is high enough in the $$$ category that she would speak, besides his being white, or mostly white.
I saw Ibrahim, a friend of mine for years, so felt very comfortable, knowing that I wasn’t alone.
That’s the odd thing about this shul, you feel as if you’ve walked into some lobby where you know no one, and your purpos is to fill a seat. The people tend to sit singularly or in clumps.
I introduced Ibie to B and then Kimmie came, and I introduced her to C.G. then directed him to what was now three veterans, so he could run out and pretend to be official greeter.
Ratty wasn’t there, but Mike Moloch & P. were, and Ratty’s sister did arrive. There was no choir, no organ. We did our own singing, and of course, without direction, C.G. couldn’t even follow the prayer book and left out the Mourner’s Kaddish until I got up and told him.
I think to myself, looking around, if these people, here now, plus a few others would make up the congregation; with no Buddah, no Old Dawg, no Pharaoh, no Handpuppet, there would be progress. There would be the basis of a real congregation.
But when C.G. leaves, Pharaoh et. al. will race in, grabbing power, making themselves important again, and unless those who have a chance now, those who, like P. gribs power, if those who were voted onto the Board can take it seriously, there might be a real chance.
Might.
